The Ingress software allows you to pair the IP camera to every door/entrance to monitor the IN-OUT process. Installing an IP camera at this point is the best pre-emptive to spot intruders. The door/entrance is always the first target of intruders when planning a break in or bypass. See the list of supported hardware manufacturers at Appendix. Milestone can be linked up with a majority of branded IP cameras in the market. It provides IP video surveillance software to be installed into an NVR (server or PC) to work with IP cameras. The Ingress software works with Milestone, the world’s leading IP video surveillance software company. The NVR can then be linked up with EAC software, embedded in the Ingress software for live viewing, playback or output into digital format. You can use a PC or a server, with large-storage hard disks to keep more video footage. The IP camera links up to NVR (network video recorder) via TCP/IP connection, where the NVR compresses and stores all video footage captured by the IP camera into its hard disk. IP cameras are not only easy to install (requires only power and TCP/IP cables) but also has good quality video (high resolution video and Infrared for low light environments). The storage also allows security officers to playback or output the video as evidence.Ĭurrently, the Internet Protocol camera (IP camera) are starting to make CCTVs obsolete. The system captures and records videos into a digital format to be saved into a DVR (digital video recorder) so that in case of intrusions, security officers can spot the intruders from the video for further action. By looking at the monitor of the CCTV system, security officers can have a view of every point of an area. This shortcoming has led to CCTVs coming into electronic access control system as another added layer of monitoring system. Also, sensors can only report an intrusion but it cannot capture or record the progress of intrusion as evidence. They will still have to present themselves to the said point for further investigation. Security officers will know that there is an intrusion happening, but they cannot view the complete visuals of that point. Manage analog and IP cameras from one intuitive interface Configure and manage HDVR video servers and video cameras from the CCURE interface Display video. However, sensors can only be triggered if and indicate when intruders breach the area. Compatible with DS ControlPoint for Simultaneous. Sensors are an important element in electronic access control systems, functioning as invisible security guards to secure an area. Supports Pelco and Third-Party IP Cameras and Network Encoders.

In other apps, capturing a bunch of windows leads to reduced frame rates. I’ve also been very impressed with just how fast and stable Live has been. You can export and import Profiles to exchange them with other people or move them to other devices. So I can have a Profile for Six Colors and separate ones for every D&D campaign I’m streaming. Live has a document-based interface, sort of: each different project appears as a different Profile in the Profiles menu, with its own set of scenes and destinations. If you switch into Preview Mode, any switching or editing isn’t displayed on your live stream until you press Return. You can choose one of two modes-in the default mode, when you switch to or edit a scene, the results are immediately reflected on your live stream. More masking options would be nice, and I’d like to be able to move or resize multiple objects at once.Įvery scene is its own individual canvas, and you can switch between them by clicking, via keyboard shortcut, or via a Stream Deck button. I’d like to be able to lock objects at their current aspect ratio so that resizing them doesn’t become a bit of a guessing game in terms of getting their current crop to remain unchanged. You can also assign keyboard shortcuts to individual overlays, so it’s easy to make overlays appear or disappear quickly. I especially appreciate that objects can be placed on Show In All Scenes or Show In Background layers, reducing the redundancy of elements you use in every scene. You can position, resize, and crop them all easily. Items you can add to the canvas include images, cameras, screen or window captures, and text. You can add items to it as overlays, which display in a floating palette that’s analogous to the Layers window in Photoshop. Live’s main window is the live-stream canvas. (I realize that most video streamers want that feature, which is why Live initially implemented it that way-but I am a bit of a control enthusiast.) This allows me to place objects on the canvas any way I want without working around a big, primary source like a camera or a screen capture. The big breakthrough in Live was its addition of the concept of a scene with its source set to Blank. (I used Live for our first experimental Six Colors stream last month.) How it works I can’t see ever going back to another video-streaming app now. It turns out, if you build a sustainable business model-Live costs $16/month, or $32/month for a Pro tier-you can afford to steadily update your software! In two years, Live had addressed literally every frustration I had experienced with the 2020 version of the app. (These apps, all focused primarily on Windows, don’t properly take advantage of various Mac features, making them less efficient on macOS.) I had crashes, failures, and frustrations with interfaces that just weren’t made for me.Įarlier this year, I decided to check in on Live to see if it had made progress in the last two years. I gave up and went back to Wirecast, OBS, and Streamlabs, and spent a couple of years frustrated that not even an iMac Pro with eight Xeon cores had enough horsepower to stream videos smoothly on the Internet. It just couldn’t be done-Live had a very particular way of approaching a document with a single “source” dominating the screen and additional items being added on top of it. For example, I wanted to place video of two people side by side, with a small picture-in-picture overlay of a screen capture. I wanted control of the layout of the live display. Unfortunately, the app wasn’t flexible enough. In early 2020, I desperately hoped it could replicate my needs for streaming Total Party Kill (and, potentially, Six Colors). Unfortunately, my first attempt at embracing Live didn’t take. I wanted to use my Mac, if at all possible. But I really didn’t want to go down that path. Most of my friends who have dived into live streaming gave up and bought Windows PCs, dedicated to running that software. There aren’t many of those out there in any category, and this was a category that frustrated me with unreliable, slow cross-platform apps. Live is a rarity: it’s a relatively young (introduced in 2017), Mac-only app. Software that streams live to YouTube, Twitch, and other services is dominated by open-source projects like OBS and Streamlabs and expensive cross-platform apps like Wirecast. When I first tried Ecamm Network‘s live-streaming app Live, I didn’t like it. efforts are carried out by providing supporting facilities such guidebooks-video tutorials, citation manuals, and WhatsApp groups. Over the years I have found that our patrons need help using these programs, and they are usually not sure who to ask or where to turn to on campus. Publishing articles is very important in the sciences, so our library clientele are busy collecting, organizing, and entering many bibliographic references into manuscripts. Why spend time on bibliographic/citation management tools? The main reason to invest time in citation management tools is because our patrons use them a lot. Our presentation focused on our use of these tools to help our library faculty, students and staff, why we invest the time to learn these tools, which tools we selected to focus on, and how we help our library clientele with these tools. Introduction There are many reasons to help library patrons with citation management tools, and there are many tools to choose from. In addition to a demonstration of the main features, we provide a comparison of the products, including the advantages and disadvantages of each one, and discuss using our knowledge of these products as a hook to instruct in the use of our licensed databases. We focus mainly on the popular products EndNote, EndNote Web, and RefWorks, but also examine the free tools Mendeley and Zotero. We report on how we have been helping our researchers collect and organize references from licensed databases, in preparation for publication, using various programs. While you may be familiar with one citation management tool, your researchers likely ask for advice about other software too. If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it. Their 2014 album Pale Communion, for instance, shares a lot in common with 2005’s Ghost Reveries - blazing heavy psych organ, serpentine riffs, everything epic all the time. There’s really no reason why they shouldn’t - Opeth playing prog rock isn’t as dramatic a shift from playing prog metal as it might seem on paper. But going full-blown prog was a test of sorts to see how many fans would come along for the ride. It lines up all pretty neatly, and each one will have its defenders and detractors (though, let’s be honest, the first five or six records probably won’t have many detractors). There are essentially three distinct phases of Opeth’s discography - their death metal-influenced ‘90s records, the heavy progressive metal grandeur of the ‘00s, and the more traditional progressive rock approach of the ‘10s. With today marking the 20th anniversary of Opeth’s landmark 2001 album Blackwater Park, we took a broader view of the band’s catalog and evaluated which of their records have aged the best and which ones reveal any cracks in the armor. But no matter which album you’re listening to, the product is unmistakably Opeth. Informed as much by Scandinavian death metal as they are by progressive rock titans like Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Genesis, Opeth pour a variety of disparate but complementary influences into their music, their earliest records sounding more in tune with death metal peers like Dark Tranquility while their later albums have mostly filtered out the metal elements altogether, instead riding more classic rock riffs and grooves. Opeth’s music is big on drama, but refreshingly free of offstage controversy. But if there’s one thing that hasn’t changed, it’s their sense of ambition, building their sound on a blend of towering heavy metal riffs and intricate, detailed progressive rock songwriting. The group hit their 30th anniversary in 2020, and they’ve come a long distance in those three decades - in fact, they’re very much a different band than the one that formed as teenagers in 1990 (literally - frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt is the only founding member that remains in the group, and a few more members have come and gone since the release of their debut album Orchid). No band in metal consistently makes statements as grand and overwhelming as those of Sweden’s Opeth. The spurs are used offensively by bringing them together in the ventral midline with powerful jabbing movements. Male platypuses possess a crural system consisting of a venom gland on the dorsal aspect of the thigh, connected by a duct to a hollow keratinous spur on the tarsus. The platypus has a lizard-like gait on land. The hind feet act as a rudder during swimming and an anchor during burrowing. When walking or burrowing, the webbing extensions are folded back under with the claws out. The pes is turned caudolaterally Webbing on the fore limbs extends beyond the claws to form fan-shaped paddles for swimming. There are two pairs of pentadactyl limbs, with claws and webbing on the digits of the manus and pes. Their ears have an obvious external ear canal, but little pinna development. A nictitating membrane is present (unlike the echidna). Platypuses have poor vision and their eyes are tilted up to scan for predators. Photo: Taronga Zoo.īoth eyes and ears are in a groove which closes when diving. The pores in the skin of the bill and frontal shield (3) are the sites of the electro-receptors and mechano-receptors. The dorsal nostril position allows the platypus to breathe while most of its body is underwater.įigure 6.1 The head of the platypus. The platypus snout is covered by soft leathery pigmented skin ( Fig. Females may also lose significant hair on the dorsal surface of the tail during the breeding season due to pugging of burrows (the process of building a mud partition within the tunnel). Platypuses moult seasonally with patchy loss of guard hairs. The platypus has a streamlined body that is compressed dorsoventrally and is covered by fur except for the bill and feet. Juvenile platypuses disperse, moving away from their natal stream. They depend on relatively undisturbed stream banks to support their resting and nesting burrows and show site fidelity with riverine home ranges of up to 7 km ( Gardner & Serena 1995). In some locations they are regularly diurnal. Platypuses have a solitary nature (except when breeding or suckling) and are mainly nocturnal, but may be crepuscular during the winter. Legal protection of platypuses was first given in Victoria in 1892, with all other states following suit by 1912 ( Grant 1995). Prior to their protection, thousands of platypuses were killed for the fur trade. They occupy a wide range of habitats, from tropical to cool temperate and pristine to degraded, and are classified as common but are potentially vulnerable to environmental perturbation ( Grant & Temple-Smith 1998). Platypuses occur in freshwater streams and lakes along the eastern seaboard of Australia from Cooktown to Tasmania, mainly east of the Great Dividing Range (west only in permanent rivers) and were introduced to Kangaroo Island in 1940. (2004a) recorded a female platypus surviving 21 years in the wild. Monotremes are long-lived for small mammals and have been maintained for up to 21 years in captivity. Bergmann’s rule applies to the platypus, with larger animals found in the cooler parts of their range ( Dunn 1949). Males are larger than females (45–63 cm long and weigh 1000–3000 g, females are 39 – 55 cm long and weigh 700–1750 g) and can be distinguished from adult females by the presence of a spur on the medial side of the tarsus ( Grant 1989 Connolly & Obendorf 1998). The Family Ornithorhynchidae contains one extant species, the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus). The monotremes (‘one hole’) possess a common opening, the cloaca, for the reproductive, urinary and digestive systems, and the testes are abdominal (testicond). The platypus belongs to the Order Monotremata, the egg-laying mammals. The platypus is a highly specialised semi-aquatic, burrowing, carnivorous egg-laying mammal that is so well-adapted that it has survived relatively unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs. Rooke rebuked the groovier clothes of the decade in favor of pieces with an edge. “What I love so much about Jordan was the way that she used clothing as a political statement,” says Williams. Williams was immediately drawn to Jordan’s own powerful sense of style. The actor plays Jordan, née Pamela Rooke, a real-life punk pioneer from the 1970s who often styled the Sex Pistols for performances and served as muse to the designer Vivienne Westwood, another fixture of the decade. “It was just a real scene in London, and it was like a small group of people that created that revolution.” (The show, directed by Danny Boyle, is based on the memoir “ Lonely Boy” from real-life Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.) “I was aware of the Sex Pistols and the punk movement’s impact at the time, but I didn’t realize how the fashion, music, and art all further triggered the movement,” says Williams. Williams is starring in FX’s six-episode limited series Pistol, premiering today, which explores the rise and crash of Sex Pistols-the English band who ignited a counterculture movement in 1970s London. As for where she heads after that, it’s up to us to follow. You may know Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones, but for her latest television project, the actor shed Arya Stark’s warrior cloaks in favor of a punk-rock wardrobe. But instead we spend most of our time giggling about dogs, dolls, and the perils of DIY hairdressing.īefore we parted ways, she spoke about how she had her mind set on scaling the highest peaks in the UK. As GoT comes to an end-its eighth and final season now screening, feverishly followed, documented, and hyped-I had planned to ask Williams about her experiences on the show, as well as her newest business venture, London Creates, and her upcoming role as Wolfsbane in the new Marvel superhero film The New Mutants. Before she was an actor, she was a dancer, and now she’s also a tech start-up entrepreneur, film producer, and industry mentor. But, in another case of art mimicking life, her innate individuality wins out.Īs is the new norm among her peers, Williams’s identity is not static. In season five, Arya throws away the grubby clothing she’s worn as a runaway throughout all of seasons two, three, and four, in an attempt to leave her old self behind and become no one: a girl with no name, who can assume the form of another by wearing their face as a disguise. While speaking with her, I am reminded of one of the pivotal moments for her character on GoT. After spending eight years on set with greasy hair, no make-up and a muted wardrobe that ran the gamut from brown to beige, she’s got her hair dyed mauve, nails painted, and at least three shades of glittery eyeshadow daubed on her lids. In her appearance, she’s as far removed from her character as might be possible. When I meet Williams at an East London café-close to the offices of her company, Daisie, which was founded in 2018 and aims to connect creative newcomers through supportive collaboration-she is enthusiastic about her many interests and ambitions, and she comes across as unfazed by the trappings of fame. On the cusp of what is surely one of the most highly anticipated conclusions in television history, Maisie Williams is figuring out how to leave Arya Stark behind. Both subvert norms of what’s expected of little girls. They have each faced and conquered adversity (for Williams, a relentless onslaught of cyberbullying in her teens for Arya, the brutal murder of most of her loved ones, culminating in the defeat of the the Night King, the harbinger of death himself). Both she and her character are independent, fierce protectors of what they believe in. Like Arya, Williams has had to grow up quickly. so im wondering if the amp power step interfer with the the cladding plus they should hide pretty good behind the cla. By the mid-game point you're able to build the new archaeologist unit and excavate antiquity sites, the spoils of which can be used to further impress the populations of rival nations. Tourism points are generated slowly at first, but as a larger number of great people are born in your empire and used to create great works it begins to gain momentum. Despite improvements, the AI retains its skewed perception of what constitutes a fair deal. If the amount of tourism you produce exceeds the amount of culture generated by all other civilisations then you achieve a cultural victory. Great writers, artists and musicians can be expended to generate great works, which are assigned to appropriate cultural buildings to generate tourism. While such an endeavour is of course a long-term effort, its roots can be found as early on as the generation of your civilisation's first great person. Sullen AI leaders still make ludicrous demands (cue Isabella refusing to trade her surplus cotton for anything less than silver, furs, horses, open borders and 8 gold per turn) while the potential remains for those leaders to blow hot and cold or denounce you seemingly on a whim.Īssuming you're able to avoid full-scale war, the overhauled cultural victory offers a new way to triumph over your rivals by providing a peaceful path to success. Trade routes add a layer of depth to the more traditional trading mechanic that, in Brave New World, retains the potential to be as stubbornly lopsided as ever. This is particularly useful when you need to boost the food or production yield of newly established cities or overcome the initial output deficit of those obtained by force. Valuable sea routes facilitate trade with cities further afield, but trade routes can also be directed within your own empire. As the game progresses, the number of trade routes and the distance over which they can be established is bolstered by technological advancements and unique advantages conferred by certain world wonders. While the route's originator gets the better deal, both parties reap the benefits of trade as gold, science and, later, religious influence is funnelled between the two. The land-based caravan that automatically moves back and forth along this route can only travel a limited distance and is unable to defend itself but, assuming you see to its safe passage by protecting it from roaming barbarians, it will continue to function for 30 turns before being eligible for redeployment. This paves the way for you to establish a trade route between your capital and that of any discovered rival civilisation or city-state. Your first trade route becomes available after researching Animal Husbandry, which as most Civ fans will know is one of the very first technologies available to you. Some locations lend themselves more readily to certain strategies as the resources on your doorstep are enhanced by your chosen leader's unique bonuses. So, before yet another cup of tea gets cold, let's look at the versatile system that serves as the lifeblood of this whole endeavour: trade routes. While Brave New World's most high-profile additions, such as the new cultural victory conditions and powerful World Congress, are aimed at adding interest and depth to the long game, they are predicated upon a new mechanic that is introduced almost immediately. Brave New World includes all the mechanics introduced there (although you'll still need Gods and Kings installed for its extra leaders and civilisations), and in going further it leaves my desk strewn with even more mugs. The main contributing factor to this new wave of tea abandonment is how well the additional systems and features of Brave New World are integrated into Civ 5, and how they serve to enhance the more recent additions in 2012's Gods and Kings expansion. In fact, it exacerbates it, leaving me with lots more washing up. Scores more have gone cold as the music from that Hovis advert induces a Zen-like state and centuries run into hours and millennia stretch into days.īrave New World does not solve this problem. The Civilization 5 developer is responsible for dozens left half-finished and forgotten, their heat dissipating as the decades roll by and Leonard Nimoy's honeyed tones note the founding of another milestone in human history or landmark feat of ingenuity. I have lost count of the cups of tea that have gone to waste at Firaxis' expense. So if the scorpion is out in the open, it will glow and be easy to spot because there isn’t much other blue or green light around. Has gone and only the ultraviolet is left.
